One of the things I find terrible for modern fantasy writing is the use of the first person narrative. Very few writers can pull it off without making their main protagonist sound like a whiny kid from a badly written, directed and acted US Teen sit-com. I don't even know how such books retain the interest of the reader, let alone get great reviews. Also, in the age of AI, how can you tell if it's done by AI, or if
a human author is really that bad at writing.
